A low carb or no carb diet is not meant to stay the way you eat for your entire life. I recommend you stay eating low or no carb for a span of weeks and not much longer. Otherwise, you can become malnourished and suffer to low amounts of energy, extreme fatigue, and things like irritability or mood swings. If you're adopting this diet to see improvements in your body, you should achieve your reasonable goal in this short amount of time, if you do it right.
Carbohydrates are our bodies main source of energy. Without consuming these, it's important to be aware that we are not as prepared to complete strenuous physical activity as often or for as long as we normally are. It is recommended that you exercise while on this diet, but don't go until you can't anymore. Pace yourself, and listen to your body.
What to eat:
For breakfast, it's best to make sure you have plenty of protein. This can come from absolutely any source, but I personally like eggs in the morning. Another yummy low carb breakfast is yogurt (I eat greek yogurt because it's known to burn fat and has important enzymes). I also like to eat plenty of nuts and nut butters on this diet because they provide lots of healthy fats, which is great energy. Fruit does include plenty of carbs, but if you consume a little a day, it can't harm you. It's good and useful energy either way.
Some lunch ideas are salads, meats like chicken or turkey, and an assortment of veggies. On this type of diet, you can't eat enough vegetables. It's going to be dull, if you don't like vegetables. But if you enjoy colorful things on your plate, you will probably enjoy this diet. This is the perfect time to explore different vegetables, and meats that you've never tried before. For instance, I loved buying new vegetarian meats, and new and exciting vegetables. You have to mix it up for your taste buds, now more than ever.
The perfect snacks are nuts like almonds or cashews, yogurt of course, cheese, or veggies. I liked baby carrots with hummus during my no carb week. If you really want to amp up your carb "detox", you could consume detox or lemon water throughout the time as well. This is simply water with lemon juice or lemon slices, or other additives like mint leaves, strawberries, or cucumbers. You could also try Jillian Michael's detox drink: 1 serving of Dandelion Root tea, 1 tablespoon cranberry juice, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, and purified water. She recommends consuming 64oz. a day.
For dinner, I would usually cook a larger piece of meat, and of course, plenty of vegetables. Cheese, yogurt, and some milks are okay as well. Just remember to stay adventurous and to stick it out for the time you've set yourself. You'll be happy with the results!
